Of Moroccan origin and raised in Montpellier in the south of France, Khalid Filali — known as DJ Khalid Music — discovered music at age 13 through a local radio station, where he first stepped in front of a microphone as a presenter. That early contact with broadcasting planted a seed that would grow into a lifelong passion.

At 16, he worked during school holidays at a record shop in Montpellier — surrounded by the biggest musical releases of the era. It was there, between the shelves and the sessions, that his true calling revealed itself. This experience became the trigger for everything that followed.

At 17, DJ Khalid Music entered the competitive DJ circuit and became triple DMC scratch champion of France. He competed multiple times at the DMC and Vestax World Championships, ranking among the top 10 DJs globally — earning an invitation to serve on the jury of the DMC Team Championships in 2000.

His mastery of scratch and his vision of integrating it across musical styles became his signature. So much so that he was invited to teach scratch at the legendary DMC school in Paris — expanding his network and cementing his status in the global DJ community.

His competition credentials opened doors across the continent. DJ Khalid Music toured French and European stages for several years — both as a solo DJ and with live band formations. The quality of his performances and selection pushed him naturally toward a new ambition: creating his own music.

He mastered every aspect of production — composition, arrangement, artistic direction, recording, mixing and mastering. His first major production was H-Kayne, the legendary Moroccan rap group he helped create, which became a pioneer of the genre and the most requested act in Morocco.

In parallel, he co-created SUPERSOUL BROTHER with Logilo — a celebrated French DJ — producing a critically acclaimed mixtape of the finest Soul and Funk from the 1970s and 80s. He then signed with Sony Music to produce and direct the album La Belle Étoile for Babylon Circus.

The defining international chapter came with FIRST SERVE — a concept album produced for the mythical hip-hop group De La Soul, alongside DJ Choklate. De La Soul made the trip to Paris, where the sessions took place. The project was signed to PIAS for worldwide release, with over two years of work invested.

A critical success. A European tour of around twenty dates followed — with TV appearances on France 2's TARATATA and London's BBC 6 Music Maida Vale. The video for Must B The Music was then filmed in Los Angeles. The album entered rotation on MTV, M6, Nova and Skyrock.

In 2013, DJ Khalid Music contributed to the original soundtrack of Cédric Klapisch's film Casse-tête chinois. The same year, the soundtrack was nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Original Score — one of the most prestigious recognitions in world cinema.

DJ Khalid Music founded GoodKeys Music in Paris in 2014. Between 2014 and 2025, he continued producing artists and building his catalog — notably working with Sif L'ssane from H-Kayne, producing tracks that achieved strong success in Morocco: Ba Mkna, Sif Ja and L'Hbal, which became genuine hits on the Moroccan scene.

Alongside his production work, he continued teaching music production (DAW/MAO) and DJing — passing on 25 years of expertise to the next generation of artists and producers.

Today, operating as a digital nomad from Bangkok, DJ Khalid Music prepares his first solo album and a new single: Welcome to Bangkok. Exploring new sonic territories in afro house, electro oriental and groove. 25 years in. The journey continues.
